The Good Person Test

Would YOU consider YOURSELF a GOOD person?
Most people do consider themselves to be good people (Proverbs 16:2).
But would you be good enough for heaven? The way to find out is to ask yourself if you have kept God's moral law, the ten commandments. Here's a quick test based on just four of those (Exodus 20:1-20). See how you do?
Have you ever told a lie, no matter how big? Have you ever stolen anything regardless of its value? Have you ever used God's name in vain (blasphemy)? Jesus taught that if you look with lust (sexually) you commit adultery in your heart. Have you looked with lust? Who can honestly say they have kept these commandments! (Romans 3:23). If you have done those things, God (who is Holy) sees you as a lying, thieving, blasphemous, adulterer at heart. And you will have to face God on Judgement Day! (Hebrews 4:12; 13 and 9:27, Revelation 20:12).
The Bible say that out of your heart come all kinds of evil, God?s moral law exposes the true condition of your heart, God?s law says, do not lie, but you lie, cheat, gossip, hate, lust, curse, because it is in your heart to do these things. You sin, because you have a sinful nature. In other words, you?re not a good person. In the sight of God who alone is Holy, there is none that is good (Romans 3:10).
You will be judged for every word, deed and thought!
Innocent or Guilty? Heaven or Hell?
If God judged you by HIS standards, would you be innocent or guilty on the day of judgement? If you're honest, you know you?d be guilty.
Would you go to heaven or hell? Again, if you're honest, you know that by God's standards, you?d deserve hell. Hell is eternal with no hope of escape.
But if God is loving won?t he just forgive you? Let's think that through. Would a good judge let the guilty to free? No, that would be a corrupt judge! Because God is good he must punish sin. (Matthew 10:28; Matthew 25:41 & 46; Luke 16:19-31; Revelation 21:8).
God's Wrath
Consider these words from the book of Revelation, chapter 20 and verses 10-15.
(10) And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever. (11) And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. (12) And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. (13) And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. (14) And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. (15) And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
God's Mercy
However, while God is Holy and just and must punish sin, he is also ?not willing that any should perish? (2 Peter 3:9). In His amazing grace and undeserved mercy God did something incredible! God sent His Son Jesus Christ (God in the flesh), to be born of a virgin, live a perfect life and die on a cross for your sins. Then Jesus rose from the grave and defeated death (Mark 8:31; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Matthew 28:6).
His death was a sacrifice made in payment by God, on your behalf. You broke God's law, but Jesus paid your fine. "For God so loved the world [you] that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life" (John 3:16).
Does everyone now have peace with God? Will all now go to heaven? No! The wrath of God abides over those who continue to live in rebellion to him (John 3:18; 36).
God's Invitation
Jesus said, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28). Through Jesus Christ, God offers you rest, escape, freedom, salvation from the burden and penalty of sin. What must you do then to be saved? Jesus said, you must Repent and Believe the Gospel (Mark 1:15).
Gospel = the ?Good News? that Jesus died for sinners.
Repent = to change your mind (in your attitude to God - admit He is Holy & you are sinful; the evidence of this change will be seen in a life that turns from sin to honouring God). Repentance towards God comes from "godly sorrow" (2 Corinthians 7:10) = a real sense of shame and guilt that comes from knowing you have personally sinnned against God!
Believe = not just agree in your mind that the Gospel is true, but personally trust Jesus Christ to save you.
No one gets to heaven by being good because no one is truly good! (Ephesians 2:8-9). However, when you humble yourself before GOD, repent and trust in Jesus and his death to save you, God will forgive all your sin & give you eternal life (John 5:24).
Peace with God begins with trust in Jesus Christ.
You can get right with God - Right Now!
Here's how...
Humble yourself before God... come before him with godly sorrow that knows the guilt and shame of sin.
Repent before God... admit that God is Holy, you are sinful and God is just to condemn you to hell for your sin.
Believe the Gospel... personally trust Jesus Christ, right now, as your living Saviour, for forgiveness and eternal life.
This is what it means to Repent, and Believe the Gospel.
Now that you know how to be saved from your sin, please, don’t waste any more time, cry out to God, right now, at this very moment, pour out your heart to God seek HIS mercy and HIS cleansing love. Do this with confidence in what the Bible says in Romans 10:11 that ANYONE who puts their faith in Jesus Christ to save them from their sin, will NOT be put to shame. The Bible makes it clear that WHOEVER calls on the name of the Lord will be saved (Romans 10:13; Acts 2:21).
So, no matter what you’ve done or who you are, if you repent before God and personally trust in Jesus and his death for sinners, you shall be saved! This is God’s promise to you.
What happens next?
If you have now repented and believed the Gospel, then start living your life from this day forward as a follower of Jesus Christ. This is the true evidence of a saved life. This is the true evidence of someone who has repented and believed the Gospel. From this day on, follow Jesus as your Lord and Saviour.
Here’s something to think about. If God would send his Son, Jesus Christ to die for you while you were still a lost sinner, then how much more does he want to pour his love out on you, now that you have placed your life in his hands. So seek God’s will for your life, learn more about the incredible love that God has for you, begin by reading Bible daily and obeying it. Trust God in all you do.
Start living your life from this day forward as a follower of Jesus Christ. This is the true evidence of a saved life.
